WW : Antelope Island

Over the blog hiatus we took a mini-day trip up to Antelope Island. It's a state park, and actually quite an easy day-trip considering how close it is and how beautiful it is. We packed up the family and headed up to enjoy a beautiful, but cloudy day.

Antelope Island is in the middle of the great Salt Lake. It is more commonly known for the buffalo on the island than the antelope. It always surprises us how many people are always touring the island, as well as how popular a tourist attraction it is.

View of the Great Salt Lake.

He had just woken up from a nap when I snapped this photo. Look at that face!
His eye colors are changing to match his daddy's. Isn't that hazel just gorgeous?

We walked down to the waterline from the beach. It was about a one-mile walk.

Little dude had a blast playing on the beach! We were some of the only people there, so he got to run free and play!

Daddy was skipping rocks into the water. Little dude was just throwing them in. They both had a blast!

There is a farm on the island, where you can tour the old ranch houses, and watch the farmers work. Little dude was so excited to see this tractor!

As for me, I was falling in love with the old farmland. Its so beautiful out there.

The fog rising off the lake, the mountains, and a hawk sitting on the post.

Little dude and daddy watching the horses.

It was a great trip! We had so much fun, enjoyed getting away and enjoyed the fresh air and space. If you haven't been to antelope island, I highly recommend taking a day to do it!

Getting Super Personal : Boob Surgery

On November 26th, I will be having surgery. While the surgery itself wasn't a shock to me, the emotions and feelings associated with it are. For most people, with most surgeries, the anxieties are pretty standard; fear of the anesthesia, fear of pain, fear of death even. For me, my fear is different than others. I know the anesthesiologist. I know the surgeon. I know the resident even. What I don't know is how I will emotionally feel afterwards, because I am having a bilateral breast reduction, in which they are removing more than half of my breast on each side.

When I first scheduled the appointment to see the plastic surgeon, I figured this would be easy. Go in, chop chop, here's some pain meds, get out. Even the doctors made it seem that way. After awhile though, it started to get emotional, and stressful. Because of the stress and the emotions, I shut down on blogging for a bit, at least until I could get the mentality of it around me and get focused again.

So many people have so many questions about it. Some I've answered, some not. I want to answer a few of them now and in this blog post so that others can understand.

Q: If you feel like you need a reduction, what size are you, anyways?
A: I'm a 38 GG (or H, depending on where you buy). Not kidding, not lying. And the only store that USED to carry my size no longer does. If I want a bra, I'll have to go order a $200 one online. This isn't really a huge difference from before the baby, when I got married I was a 38 DDD.

Q: Haven't you tried to lose weight? That's where I lose weight first.
A: Yes, I have, and I lost 30 lbs this year. During that time I had a personal trainer who was doing bi-weekly measurements and we found that I was losing everywhere BUT my chest. The only benefit to working out more was gaining back and shoulder strength to hold these boulders up.

Notice the awkward hand of my son. He's trapped!
Q: What about breastfeeding with another baby?
A: After a long discussion with my primary care physician, my pediatrician, and my plastic surgeon, they all agreed that my inability to breastfeed my first could be completely because of breast size. They quoted that 85% of women can breastfeed after this surgery because they don't mess with the milk ducts or mammary glands. With me, they quoted me a 90% chance of breastfeeding afterwards.

Q: What size do you think you'll be afterwards?
A: Originally I asked for a "natural" looking size, leaving that up to the doctor. She quoted me a "full c" or a "small d", which I would be very happy with.

Q: Have you tried any other methods besides surgery?
A: Oh, yes. I see a chiropractor every three months. I work with a physical therapist who has been trying to help me get the correct posture part down (with no luck). I've done workouts for my chest to destroy fat and build muscle (and they only get bigger) and I've tried different bras to help. At this point, I will need my back fused by 30, or this surgery, at 25.

Q: Besides size, what other problems do you have because of it?
A: By the end of my work-day I have to lie down for a few moments because of my back.
Its impossible to wear some styles of clothing, and essentially if I want to wear trendy clothing, I have to go to the maternity section where the clothes will fit my waist but be comfortable enough for my bust.
My shoulders have become lose and dislocate. I had one repaired, but the other one needs it now, thanks to the weight from my bra straps.
I can never go without wearing a bra. Showers are cut short, tub time includes a sports bra, and at the gym I'm usually wearing two bras, just so I can get a half-assed workout in. I even sleep in a bra, which I've heard is a massive no-no, but not an option for me.
I am getting masses on my chest, sternum, etc. Each time, I have to go in, undergo a breast cancer eval, and have the mass excised and sent to pathology for testing. I've had three breast cancer screenings this year because of them.

Even a professional photographer couldn't photoshop
these babies out!
All my life I knew I'd eventually have a reduction. I always joked that I wanted to go in, have a hysterectomy, tummy tuck, and reduction all at once, once I was done having kiddos. Bubba always knew that that was a part of my life plan, but after three breast cancer scares this year, three mini surgeries to remove lumps and the struggles in my daily life, we decided we can't wait any longer. This needs to be done to improve the quality of our lives.

The emotional part to me is that I wonder if I will feel like less of a woman. I've always had an hourglass shape. I've always had curves and knew if I wanted to feel sexy, I could because of my bust. Now I question what I will feel like, or look like. I'm excited to have the procedure done, and I trust the doctor, but on one hand, she will have a male resident with her, thats GREAT! A guys opinion before they even suture me closed on if they look good or not...but at the same time...that makes me uneasy.

Now that I've bored you with all the nitty grittys and questions so far, I'm open to answering any other questions you may have, so feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

Thank you for your understanding while I've been on this hiatus. I needed some time to think, to get my plan in order, to get the surgery scheduled, and to get back on track before the "big day". You guys are truly the best.

September IPSY Glam Bag Review

This month's glam bag simply rocked. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love the products I got in this months bag! Now, if they could just get DHL to ship these bags on time... I'd be a happy girl! (12 days waiting in a warehouse to ship? Not okay DHL.)

I had only ever seen NYX products at Ulta before getting my glam bag. I had always looked at their stuff, but never bought anything because I didn't want to get something I'd totally hate. After trying out multiple products though my bags, I have come to really love this product! I am really excited to try out some black eyeshadow - it's definitely not my norm!

This lipstick is a fantastic nude lip color. I've been using it daily since I got it and absolutely adore it! I love nude lipsticks and had been really trying to find a great color since my last lipstick ran out last month. This one is fantastic!

I just love mascara. I really do use too much of it, but I absolutely love trying out different brands, different colors, different textures, and different wands. It's my weakness, and I was so excited to try out this one. Trust me, it didn't fail my expectations!

Starlooks is another brand I've discovered through my Glam bags that I've come to love! They're great quality, last all day, and don't smudge. I was so excited to get a dark black one, it looks great with my mascara!

Freeman Facial Paper Masks
I grew up watching my mom use Freeman products. Their masks, their foot scrubs, their hand treatments. I remember seeing them at Ulta and buying a bunch of face masks because they were affordable and smelled great (they were the full sized ones, I got three for $3). They're one of my favorite go-to's when I want to pamper myself, so when I saw these I was really excited! Freeman makes an awesome product and I love trying their stuff out!

Bag Cost: $10.00
Bag Value:  $44.95

Guest Post: Merelynne

Hello! I am Meredith and I blog over at MereLynne.

I was born and raised in Southeast Missouri in a small town where everyone really did know your name, or at least in my case, my folks’ names and their cell phone numbers.  I moved away after high school for college to a city that was a little bigger than my hometown, well it had a mall that was close and places that stayed open past 9pm on school nights.  About 2 months ago, my fiance came home to say that he had a job offer in big ol’ St. Louis and we would be moving.  So now I find myself navigating the highways around St. Louis with my fiance and two dogs and if it wasn’t for my GPS I would never make it home.

I am a pretty indecisive person, just ask my finace.  It took 4 trips and countless hours thinking about it just to decide on the type of vests the guys will be wearing at our wedding in less than 2 months.  And, do not even get me started on the food.  I will probably have someone else make that decision.  All that matters to me is that there will be an open bar and a large dance floor.

So, when it came time to decide on a direction of my blog - I froze.  One direction? Absolutely no way.  I love too much and have an eclectic range of interests.  My blog is the place for my interests and passions.  I write about DIY project tips, wedding planning, and how 2 people are learning to combine their incomes.  Plus, I will admit that I am slightly obsessed with my two pups, Maggie and Tiny, which is evident with all the pictures and posts dedicated to just them.

I’m just your average girly-girl trying to leave an impact on this world.  I love for us to be friends, so come by my little corner of the world and say hi.

Hello everyone!
My name is Beatriz, AKA Bootz, I write for Bootz, Inc. Blog.

I love posting tips on fashion, trends and anything having
to do with fashion events here locally in Utah.
I occasionally like to post outfit posts just so you have an idea of my personal style,
but I love giving ideas and having you do them on your own.
I am fascinated by individual style.

A little about myself: I am a full time fashion student by day, and a fashion blogger by night.
I love fashion and the way it can be expressed as an art,
my plan is to get in the fashion field once I graduate the Fashion Institute here in Salt Lake City.
(I seriously just used FASHION in that sentence three times,
sorry that normally doesn't happen. I think I might of  got a little excited.)
I am 24 years old and currently live with my fiance in a cute little apartment near the city.
Please make sure to follow me to get a better view of what I'm about and more on
my adventure through the fashion scene here in Utah! :)

September Birchbox Review

Birchbox keeps surprising me each month! I really like their customer service, and how quickly they ship their boxes! This month had some awesome goodies inside that I really liked!

Juice Beauty - Green Apple Peel
I really liked this product. The container was teeny, so I was a little skeptical as to how much I'd get to use the product, but a little bit goes a LONG way, and I love this mask! You simply put it on, wait 5 minutes, and rinse it off. My skin was left feeling soft and smelling great! I really liked this product.

Ruffian - Nail Lacquer in Mai Tai
As far as boxes go, I keep getting Orange polishes, which was a little annoying, but I loved being able to get a fall color! It lasted well over a week, with no chipping, smudges or fading. It's a truly great quality polish!

Beauty Protector Shampoo & Conditioner
I've never gotten a shower item in a box before, so I was a little skeptical to try out both a shampoo and a conditioner in the same box. I loved the smell of these, and your hair holds the scent all day long! The only thing I didn't like was how quickly my hair got oily and felt gross into the day. By noon my hair looked terrible, which I hated. For re hydrating your hair, this product works great though!

Soak - Laundry Detergent
I actually haven't used this item yet - but I thought it was quite interesting that it was shipped to me in my box this month! I will be using it very soon though!

I hope you're having a great Monday!
